The NCREIF Farmland Index consists of 539 investment-grade farm properties; comprised of 395 annual cropland properties and 144 permanent farmland properties. The index includes 170 properties in the Corn Belt, 122 in the Pacific West, 66 in the Delta States, 54 in the Pacific Northwest, 46 in the Mountain States, 35 in the Lake States, 23 in The National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries (NCREIF) recently released the latest Farmland Property Index (the Index), describing the investment performance of 543 agricultural properties in the United States over the year ending December 31 st 2012. The total value of the properties in the Index was $3.55 trillion. The Australian Farmland Index is compiled by NCREIF and covers 50 properties totaling more than A$1.14 billion ($769 million; €701 million) in value. Annualized returns since the index’s inception in 2015 are 14.19 percent in total, comprising 6.01 percent income returns and 7.88 percent capital appreciation returns.
